Buying a guitar
If you’re a complete beginner then buying a guitar is difficult. It’s probably a good idea to either borrow one of mine or get a cheap one until you know what you really want.
The guitar shops in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas will be more than happy to help you too. There’s a nice local one called Newport Music in Newport Pagnell (10 St John’s Street, MK16 8HJ) – might be a good idea to call before you go as he’s a lone traider (01908 217 217), or if you want a bigger guitar shop then go to Bedford Music Centre https://www.musiccentre.co.uk/. There’s parking round the back – you have to ask questions in this shop to get the right service. This is a good shop for a secont guitar too – some nice Martin’s in there!
It needs to 1. Look Good, 2. Sound good, 3. be the Right Price, & 4. Feel Good. I believe that if a guitar feels good then that’s fantastic – I have lots of guitars and tend to go for the one that feels good, so, that’s why it’s a good idea to play the guitar before you buy it.
Buying online is great as far as price is concerned but you don’t know what you’re getting until it arrives… be prepared to use the returns process if it’s not right, or pay for a luthier to set it up.
If you’re a complete beginner then please try some of my guitars in your 1st lesson – you’ll at least figure out what type of guitar you want (electric, acoustic, classical) and what size (children can have half or three-quarter scale guitars).
Thanks, Pete
